Local farmers were also featured in the parade, riding horses and horse-drawn carriages.
Area Emergency Vehicles took part in the parade on Saturday.
St. Peter Hosts Prairie Days CelebrationThe Village of St. Peter hosted its 37th Annual St. Peter Prairie Days celebration at the village park over the weekend. On Saturday the event hit a climax with the annual parade, which started in downtown and ended in St. Peter Park.
The parade was led by Miss Fayette County, Sydney Young, and Little Miss Fayette County, Reagan Roberts, and featured performances from the South Central High School and St. Elmo's High School Bands as well as horse-drawn carriages and emergency vehicles from around the area. Several local businesses and church organizations decorated floats for the parade and threw candy, much to the delight of the younger attendees.
Event volunteer David Harmeier says that the event draws in a lot of business and support for the village, and thats why he volunteers.
"This keeps the park going. It's a great community, and its a great draw to be able to put something like this on," Harmeier said.
Proceeds from concessions and inflatable rides all went to benefit the St. Peter Parks Department. The event was first held to commemorate America's Bicentennial in 1976.
