Signup for BCMW/WJBD Radio Adopt a Family Program to Start Monday
Applications will be available from 8:30 to 11:30 am and from 1 to 3:30 pm at the Social Service Agency BCMW at 909 East Rexford and from nine to four at the WJBD radio studios at 310 West McMackin. No applications will be accepted after Friday, Niovember 22nd.
BCMW's Sue Castleman coordinates the annual program.
"We plan to assist 300 family with warm clothing, gifts, and toys for the family. Last year, we served 311 families, including 724 children. We coordinate with other programs such as Salvation Army and ABATE in order to avoid duplication" Castleman said.
Castleman says preference is given to families who are trying to help themselves improve their situation. Families must provide 30 days proof of total household income, social security cards and copy of current medical card. The program is for families with children age 14 and under. However, the program will also assist families with any child still in high school if that child is part of a family with younger children.
Castleman says there are several ways you can help the less fortunate in the area.
"They can call us to get on the list to adopt a child or a family. They can bring in donated, new gifts for our families or bring us a cash donation" Castleman said.
Those interested in helping may contact Sue Castleman or LeAnn Speiser at 532-7388 extension 115 or 127.
