Salem Man Arrested for Making Sexual Contact with 12-Year-Old Girl

A 26-year-old Salem man has been arrested by Salem Police for alleged aggravated criminal sexual abuse.  Nicholas Weikert of South Broadway was taken into custody after being brought to the police station for questioning.   Salem Police Detective Brian Green says Weikert is accused of committing sex acts with a 12-year-old girl that he knew on several occassions at his home over the summer.  No one was aware of the situation until the girl told a friend what had happened and the situation was reported to police last month.  The victim was then interviewed by the staff of the Amy Center before police questioned Weikert and took him into custody.   Weikert was taken to the Marion County Jail pending the filing of formal charges.
