Salem Fire Protection District Open House TuesdayThe Salem Fire Protection District is holding an open house from six to eight tonight. Fire Chief Roger Mann says various emergency services agencies will have equipment and displays set up.
"We're going to have static displays of equipment. People can come in and ask questions about them and see what we use. We're also going to have a couple demonstrations. There's going to be a room burn. We're going to have furniture in it and we're going to light it, let people watch how long it takes to develop and what we have to do to put it out. We're going to have a class on fire extinguishers and show the proper way to use them. It will be a lot of fun so they can see what the fire extinguishers do", said Mann.
Mann says extrication equipment will also be on display. There will also be games for the kids along with hot dogs, popcorn and soda for everyone. Mann notes anyone interested in learning more about joining the fire department is also welcome and can get their questions answered.
Among the other agencies that will have displays set up will be emergency medical services, 9-1-1, Salem Police Department and the Salem Department of Emergency Management Services. Salem C.E.R.T. that trains individuals to help their family and neighborhoods in the event of an emergency will have a sign-up for the C.E.R.T. training class that starts Thursday evening at the Department of Emergency Services office in the Salem Police Department building at 201 South Rotan.
