Salem Apple Fest Set for Saturday

The Salem Apple Fest planned for Saturday in Bryan Memorial Park should be the biggest ever.

Salem Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Leonard Ferguson says the event is scheduled from nine to four, with free parking and free admission.  "It is hard to describe what is all going to be there.  We know there is going to be about 16 different food vendors.  There will be about 80 different vendors of crafts and flea market items.  Probably anything you can think of is going to be there," said Ferguson.

Two apple orchards will also be present with plenty of apples and cider.  There will also be pony rides and games for the kids. Jamie Nattier and Herman Perry and Gold Nuggets will provide entertainment.  The Southern Illinois Elite Tumblers will take stage at noon.

There will also be an apple dessert contest.  Entries will be accepted between ten and 10:30, with judging at 10:30.  Entries will be returned after the judging.

The Apple Fest will be followed by the Fall Gathering hosted by the Haneys that will feature the best in Southern Gospel Music.  The Fall Gathering will be held on the stage of Bryan Memorial Park.
