Rural Mt. Vernon Man Injured When Trying To Remove Large Dead Tree LimbA rural Mt. Vernon man was seriously injured when a large dead tree limb he was helping to remove fell on top of him.
Jefferson Rural Firemen say Don Donald of State Route 37 north of Idlewood Lane was working with the driver of a pickup truck in trying to pull the limb down with the use of a rope when the accident occurred. Neighbors helped remove the limb off of Donald before firemen arrived.
Donald was initially taken to Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon for treatment of possible head injuries and later transferred to a St. Louis Hospital.
The dead tree limb was estimated to be a foot in diameter where it attached to the tree. The incident occurred at 12:30 Saturday afternoon.
