Raccoon Grade School Fine Arts Committee Still Trying to Bring in Part Time Music TeacherThe Raccoon Grade School fine arts committee that is trying to raise money to fund the music teacher's position remains far away from their goal. Committee member Lucinda Register says their raffle to give away a Kawasaki Mule came to an end at the PTO school carnival Friday night.
"The new raffle we just had didn't quite bring the proceeds we were hoping, but we're standing at about $5-6,000 towards hiring a part time music teacher" said Register.
Register says the committee needs to raise $20,000 to reach their goal. She reports they are looking for pledges and other fund raising ideas. Register says realistically they are now looking at trying to get a three-fifth time music teacher hired for second semester.
"We come at this from different areas of life, but we feel music is essential. Music is a part of everything we do. It's not OK to forget ablout music. It needs to be right up there with math, science, and social studies" Register told WJBD.
The winner of the Kawasaki Mule drawing was Charles Huge Junior of Odin.
