Police Beat for Friday, July 5th, 2013A 22-year-old Murphysboro man has been arrested by Salem Police following what initially started as a report of a fight late Thursday night in the Salem Wal-mart parking lot. While the fight was over when police arrived, they say Joseph Joiner became combative with officers. That led to his arrest on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and criminal damage to state supported property. Joiner allegedly kicked one officer, threatened another, and broke a window out of a squad car while being transported to jail. The report of the fight was received around 11 Thursday night.
A 29-year-old Salem man has been arrested by Salem Police for failure to appear in court for making a false police report. Christopher Anderson of South Lincoln was taken to the Marion County Jail where he remained Friday morning.
A 24-year-old Salem man was arrested by State Police for driving under the influence. Steven Schoonover of Mills Crossing posted $100 bond and was released from the Marion County Jail.
Marion County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 47-year-old Jamie Brooks of Evansville, Indiana for failure to report an accident and failure to notify of damage. Brooks was released on $150 bond. No other details are yet available.
The Marion County Sheriff's Department is investigating a residential burglary. Christopher Keech of Hillcrest Lane south of Salem reported returning home shortly after midnight to find the front door of the residence was kicked in and a bedroom window broken out.
