New Miss Illinois Is From ElmhurstMARION, Ill. (AP) - Brittany Smith of Elmhurst is the new Miss Illinois.
The suburban Chicago woman was crowned Saturday night at a pageant in Marion. She was previously Miss Northern Suburbs. Smith will compete in the Miss America pageant this September in Atlantic City, N.J. Smith was chosen for the title from 32 contestants. She performed Irish dancing in the talent competition.
Smith's interview question was about women in science and engineering. She answered that more women need to enter those fields. Smith says she wants to pursue graduate studies as a physician. She attends Purdue University and is majoring in health and kinesiology.
First runner-up was Savannah Teegarden of Chicago. Smith takes over from Megan Ervin of Rushville, who was Miss Quincy.
