Munchkin Auditions for Salem High School Production of “The Wizard of Oz” Saturday

By The Associated Press

Salem Community High School will be holding open auditions for Munchkins for the upcoming production of “The Wizard of Oz”.  Auditions will take place on Saturday, January 12th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Choir Room at the high school.  The room is located at the southeast corner of the building, enter door 18.

Auditions will be general auditions and are open for age 9 to 14.  About 20 to 25 boys and girls are needed who can sing and enjoy being on stage.  Roles available for audition include The Munchkin Chorus Members, the Lollipop Guild, the Lullaby League, the Munchkin Barrister, the Munchkin Coroner, and the Miniature Wicked Witch.

Boys and Girls will not audition for one particular character, but will be placed where the directors think they will perform best.  Auditioning will entail each boy or girl singing the chorus “Ding Dong, The Witch is Dead” with piano accompaniment, then speaking a few lines the directors will supply at that time.

If given a role, there will be a $25 registration fee that will help pay for costuming and makeup. Registration information and rehearsal schedules will be mailed out on January 14th.  Rehearsals will be February 2nd, 9nd, 16th, 23rd from 10 a.m. to  12 p.m. and February 25th, 26th, 28th, March 4th, 5th, and 12th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. or later.  Performances are March 8th, 9th, 15th, 16th at 7 p.m.
