Miner Dies in White County Coal AccidentCARMI, Ill. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a 47-year-old miner died in a coal accident in southern Illinois.
White County coroner Chris Marsh tells WSIL-TV says Robert Smith died after Saturday's accident. An autopsy was performed Sunday. Investigators say the Norris City man was in a cart at White County Coal in Carmi when the vehicle veered off an underground path and overturned.
State and federal officials are at the scene investigating.
