Marion County Sheriff Announces New Employees and PromotionsMarion County Sheriff Jerry Devore has announced the hiring of a new full time deputy and correctional officer as well as two promotions to the rank of Sergeant.
The new deputy will be Grant Green of Salem, who has just recently graduated from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville with a degree in Criminal Justice. Green has also worked as a part-time Sandoval Police officer. He'll be attending the State Police Academy for 12 weeks beginning January 6th.
The new correctional officer will be Blake Phillips of Salem. Phillips formerly worked part time as a Marion County Correctional Officer before resigning several months ago to take a full-time position at the Clay County Jail at Louisville.
DeVore has also announced the promotion of Deputy Shane King to Sergeant and Correctional Officer Clayton Cain to Jail Sergeant.
The sheriff's department still has the position of Jail Administrator open. Devore is looking for someone with a business background and prior supervisory experience. He says law enforcement experience would be helpful, but the successful candidate will be sent to the Correction Officers Academy to get a background on jail operations. Those who are interested in the position can apply at the Marion County Law Enforcement Center.
