Marion County Has New Primary Public DefenderMarion County has a new primary public defender.
He's former Fayette County Assistant State's Attorney Matt Chancey. Chancey lost the Fayette County State's Attorney election last fall to current state's attorney Joshua Morrison. Resident Circuit Court Judge Mark Stedelin introduced Chancey to the Marion County Board Tuesday night. Stedelin says Chancey has had an extensive career as both a prosecutor and in criminal defense work. Stedelin says he hopes Chancey will stay in the position long term.
Chancey replaces Tim Huyett who resigned last month.
