Man Charged in Shooting Death of Woman Found In Southeastern Illinois Cornfield
CARMI, Ill. (AP) — A man is being held in the White County Jail at Carmi on $2 million bond in the shooting death of an Indiana woman whose body was found in a cornfield.
Twenty-five-year-old Thomas Davidson made his first court appearance Monday in the White County community of Carmi. He's charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated vehicular hijacking and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
Authorities say 58-year-old Sandra Burkhardt of Poseyville, Ind., was last seen leaving a store Friday night in Indiana's Gibson County. White County Sheriff Doug Maier says investigators believe Davidson forced her into Illinois a short time later and shot her four times near Crossville, then crashed her car in Indiana.
Indiana police arrested Davidson Saturday while investigating burglaries.
A message with Davidson's public defender wasn't immediately returned.
