Local School Districts Would Benefit From School Funding Bill

Area school districts would would see significant new primary state aid if a bill currently being considered by the State Legislature is approved.

The measure pushed by State Senator Andy Manar is designed to create more equity across rich and poor districts and would require districts to demonstrate need before receiving money. While local districts would benefit, some suburban Chicago Schools would see up to an 85% decrease in state aid under the plan.

Figures released by the State Board of Education show how dramatically primary state aid for local school districts would be impacted. The Salem Grade School District wuld recieve a 24-percent increase in funding, amounting to an increase of 1-million-49-thousand dollars. The Salem High School District would have a 10.1-percent increase or 308-thousand dollars. Centralia City Grade Schools would receive 22-percent, or 1-million-425-thousand dollars more. Centralia High School would get 21.7-percent more or $933,000.

North Wamac School would receive the alrgest percentage increase, up a full 39.6%, or $925,153.

Sandoval Schools would receive the second largest percentage increase, at 39.4%, or $1,104,000.

Patoka schools would receive a 31.3% increase or 1$22,000.

South Central Schools would receive a 17.7% increase or $533,000.

Odin Schools would get 329 thousand dollars, or 23.2% more.

Central City Grade School would receive an increase of 23.4%, or $257,000.

Raccoon Grade School would receive $1,174,637, 10.7% more than previously.

Kell Grade School would receive $595,967 or 16.1% more.

Willow Grove School District would receive $1,003,730, a change of 19.3%. 

Selmaville school would receive the smallest increase at 7.8%, or $56,350.
