Parade Line-Up Announced For Saturday's Little Egypt Festival Parade
Parade Chair Jill Combs says the parade will step off at two Saturday afternoon from Bryan Memorial Park and follow its traditional route down North Broadway to Main Street and then west on Main to Illinois Street where it will end. "We have 100 entries this year. They include nine bands, 13 floats, alot of politicians, churches, small businesses," said Combs. "It's been a good turnout."
Combs is looking forward to honoring those who have served us in the military. "The theme is 'Heroic Adventures'. We wanted to honor a local person Major Stephanie Arndt. She is a retired Major with the U.S. Marine Corps. We just wanted to honor her and some of our other servicemen and women who will also be in the parade to show we appreciate them," said Combs.
The Illinois National Guard will be honoring local members who were part of the Sparta unit that just returned from Afghanistan. Others who have recently returned from combat overseas are also being invited to be part of the National Guard entry in the parade. Anyone interested should contact WJBD radio at 548-2000.
The Little Egypt Festival Parade concludes a day of activities both in Bryan Memorial Park and Downtown.
