Lawyers: Cameras May Have Caught Privileged Talk
The (Kankakee) Daily Journal reports that a judge gave attorneys for Demetrious Jones at least until January to look further into the matter. That means the 20-year-old won't be sentenced until next month at the earliest. Jones was found guilty in October in the 2011 shooting death of 27-year-old Marcus Sanders.
The trial was part of an ongoing Illinois Supreme Court experiment to lift camera bans in select courts. If it goes well, the policy could become permanent. At the Thursday hearing, Kankakee County Circuit Court Judge Clark Erickson set a status hearing for Jan. 10.
