Jefferson County Correctional Officer Arrested for Aggravated Battery
An off-duty Jefferson County Correctional officer has been charged with aggravated battery after allegedly striking another man following an accident on Monday morning. Bradley Austin is free after posting $15,000 bond.Jefferson County Sheriff Roger Mulch says they received a 911 call that 40-year-old David Phillips had been battered while standing in the roadway in the 1300 block of North Drivers Lane. Upon arrival, deputies determined the battery had occurred as a result of a dispute concerning the reporting of a motor vehicle accident that possibly involved use of alcohol.
Mulch says Austin was placed on suspension with pay pending further investigation. He was incarcerated in the Washington County Jail at Nashville until formal charges were filed on Tuesday and Austin was able to post bond.
