Hostess To Close Bakery Outlet Store in Central City
The closure of Hostess Brands, Incorporated due to a strike by bakers unhappy with proposed cuts to help the company through bankruptcy will claim the Hostess Bakery outlet store in the Central City mini-mall. The store's last day of operation will be on Monday.Business was brisk on Friday after the announcement of the closure of Hostess became a big national story. Hostess Brands filed a request with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York to liquidate the company after failing to get its striking workers to accept wage and benefits cuts. Hostess immediately suspended operations at all of its 33 plants across the United States.
The closings will result in the loss of about 18-thousand jobs. The liquidation doesn't necessarily mean the death of Twinkies and Ho Hos, as Hostess says it will be selling the brands and other assets.
Fast-acting entrepreneurs have already started auctioning off boxes of Twinkies on eBay for as much as 100-dollars for a box of ten.
