Heavy Use Reported Of New KSB Recycling CenterThe President of Keep Salem Beautiful reports the new recycling bin on the Marion County Courthouse parking lot on North Broadway is being well utilized. Rita Black says in the first two days, the bin is almost half full.
The bin will be available the first and third weeks of the month. It will arrive on Monday morning and be removed the following Monday morning. Black says KSB has to pay for the bin on a weekly basis and it cannot afford to have the bin placed at the site for an entire month. The organization will evaluate the usage and expenses in three months and determine if any changes in the schedule should be made.
Black wants to remind area residents that they will not have to separate their recyclables any more. Newspapers, plastics #1 and #2, cardboard, and aluminum cans are a partial listing of the items accepted. No glass can be accepted because the company who provides the bin has no resources to process the glass. Items that can be accepted are listed on a temporary sign that is posted on the bin. It will be replaced with a permanent sign in the near future.
Those with questions about the recycling can contact Black at 548-0215.
