Head On Crash on Walnut Hill Road Sends One to the Hospital

By Bruce Kropp, WJBD News

A head on crash Friday morning on the Walnut Hill Road in Walnut Hill sent one person to the hospital for treatment.

Marion County Sheriff's Deputies say 62-year-old Gary Hopper of Marge Road in Dix was traveling west in the eastbound lane when he collided head on with a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Tera Cottrill of Mills Road in Walnut Hill.  Deputies report Hopper was experiencing medical problems at the time the wreck occurred.  He was trapped in his van and had to be extricated by the Centralia Fire Protection District.

Hopper was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia for treatment.  Cottrill refused medical treatment.

The wreck occurred around six Friday morning a quarter mile east of the Schwartz Road.  No tickets have been issued as the investigation in the accident continues.
