Governor Signs Bill For Road Projects and More Child Abuse Investigators

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is approving legislation that provides hundreds of millions of dollars for road projects and a boost for more child abuse investigators.       

Quinn signed the bill Thursday evening after the Senate voted 38-15 to approve the supplemental appropriation. It's meant to shore up parts of state government that are running short of money with half of the budget year to go.  It includes $675 million in unanticipated federal and state money available for road projects this spring. There's $25 million saved from Gov. Pat Quinn's closure of correctional facilities that will be shifted to the Department of Children and Family Services. That money will pay for investigators and employees who will bolster foster-family services.       

Republicans complained the bill was rushed.
