Free Screening Sites Available County-Wide Beginning in March
Free screening clinics for children from birth to five years of age are being offered at area schools this spring. The clinics are a cooperative effort between the districts, the Regional Superintendent of Schools, Child and Family Connections, the Kaskaskia Workshop and other social service agencies.
The clinic includes checks of infant-toddler language development, motor coordination, and social skills. Preschool-aged children are also screened for pre-academic skills, vision, and hearing.
The screenings take approximately 30 minutes, and parents are provided with immediate feedback about their children's performance, as well as information about services for which their children may qualify. Early intervention, speech/language therapy, pre-kindergarten, Head Start and Early Childhood special education programs are all available free of charge to eligible children.
Participation in the spring screening clinics is an excellent means to enroll children in school district preschool classes and Head Start for next fall when there may be waiting lists for these programs.
