Fire Destroys Detached Garage and Car Inside in Mt. Vernon

A detached garage of the Rodney Pierce home at 1416 Wescott in Mt. Vernon was destroyed by fire Sunday morning.  Mt. Vernon City Firemen say the garage and a car inside were fully engulfed in flames.  Pierce was able to move a second vehicle away from the garage and avoid damage to it.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  The fire alarm came in around 7:20 Sunday morning, with firemen on the scene for about an hour.
