Field Kindergarten Center Gives School Report to Centralia School BoardThe Field Kindergarten Center gave the Centralia City School Board their school improvement report at Tuesday evening. Principal Dorcas Jackson says they have begun the implementation of using technology in the classroom, such as using iPads in the classroom. Students use apps to help learn their lessons for the day.
The school has also implemented more student hands-on learning into the curriculum. Students with high and low abilities are broken up into groups. The students interact with each other to teach each other and work together to solve their lessons. Jackson says their goal is to get more kids with low abilities up to the highest level if possible, and says there has been success.
They have also implemented common core practices for Language Arts. Teachers review their common core lessons daily with their students by putting them up on the board. The school will be implementing common core practices with math this spring. The school currently has about 200 students.
In Board action, the Board approved a resolution declaring surplus equipment. The Board approved an extension of Superintendent Dave Rademacher's contract. The Board approved the second reading and adoption of the Library Collection Development Policy. The Board approved maternity leave of Lincoln School teacher Dawn Atlee.
