Father Sues School District Over Son's Suicide

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - The father of a 15-year-old southern Illinois boy who killed himself last year accuses the school district in a lawsuit of not stopping the child from being bullied.

Bradley Lewis filed the federal lawsuit on Monday against Carterville schools and various district officials. It accuses them of negligence in Jordan Lewis' suicide last October.

The suit also names the makers of an anti-bullying movie that talked about suicide and was screened at the school the day before the teen's death.

The lawsuit claims Jordan Lewis frequently was punched, ridiculed and had his head slammed into lockers.

Jordan was a sophomore at Carterville High School, some 120 miles southeast of St. Louis.

The district's superintendent did not return messages from The Associated Press seeking comment.
