Eastern Illinois University Wins Governor's Award for Veterans Work
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The state of Illinois is honoring Eastern Illinois University for its work helping veterans on its campus.The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs says the Charleston university is the winner of the Governor's Award for Excellence in Education for fall 2012. Department Director Erica Borggren says EIU's leadership has demonstrated a commitment to helping veterans.
The university was praised for administrative and financial-aid policies that benefit veterans and for holding workshops for veterans transitioning to campus life. EIU was also praised for its Veterans Service Office. The on-campus facility provides a range of services geared toward veterans.
