Department of Corrections Job Fair Hopes to Put Former Inmates in Touch with Employers(Harvey, IL) -- The Department of Corrections is giving ex-cons a chance to get readjusted in society. Marcus King, with the DOC, says their Summit of Hope puts former inmates in contact with potential employers.
"At a lot of these events we try to recruit vendors who are friendly to ex offenders. We try to get them there to get jobs." King said.
The purpose of the Summit of Hope is to encourage and supply the former inmates with the tools they need to become law abiding, responsible members of society. King says they've reached out to nearly 15-hundred ex-offenders in the past two months. The next Summit is going on today in Harvey at the Thornton High School Fieldhouse. There's also a summit in Collinsville on the 22nd.
