Dead Prairie Eagle Miner Identified

By The Associated Press

Cutler, IL  -- The man killed at Prairie Eagle South Mine in Cutler on Wednesday is identified as 28 year old Timothy Chamness.  Reports indicate Chamness was using a remote control to operate a mining machine when he got pinned between the tail of the machine and a coal rib.  He was pronounced dead just after 9:00 Wednesday night.  It's the first death at the mine since Knight Hawk Coal took over operation in 2008, but there have been nearly 20 injuries at the mine since that time.
