Congressman Shimkus Signs Pro-2nd Amendment Letter
Congressman John Shimkus has joined 76 colleagues from Congress to send a letter to President Barack Obama opposing his recently announced gun control proposals. The letter references that prompt action should never cause us to overlook the Constitution. The letter criticizes Obama's proposals saying that they do not recognize that simply having a firearm does not cause murder or criminal nature. It also states that guns do not turn law-abiding citizens into murderers, but may protect them from one.
Shimkus states he was not surprised by the President's remarks and says his concerns are about President Obama not working with Congress. He says we do not need more laws, but need to enforce the ones we already have and understand that we cannot regulate “the evil that creates a lack of respect for human life”.
