Centralia Man Dies In Motorcycle Crash South of Sandoval

By Bruce Kropp, WJBD News

A 64-year-old Centralia man has died following a motorcycle accident just south of Sandoval Friday afternoon.

Marion County Sheriff's Deputies say John Berning was northbound on new U.S. 51 south of the Cemetery Road when he appeared to have missed the curve and continued straight into the roadside ditch. The cycle eventually came to rest partially in the ditch, with Berning laying beside the ditch.

Deputies say Berning was unconscious when emergency help arrived. Efforts to revive him continued at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia, but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.

Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon says there were no injuries visible that appeared to have caused the death. As a result, an autopsy will be scheduled. Deputies report there were two witnesses to the accident.

The wreck occurred around 2:47 Friday afternoon.
