Centralia District, Salem and Kell Firemen All Fight FiresA 30 by 50 foot detached garage was destroyed by fire at the Chris Johnson residence at 658 Deerfield Road in rural Walnut Hill early Sunday morning.
Heavy fire and smoke were showing when Centralia Fire Protection District firemen arrived. They were able to move an enclosed trailer backed up to the door before it was damaged.
While the walls and roof of the garage were saved, everything inside the structure was a total loss. That included a car, lawn mower, go cart, and four wheeler.
The cause of the fire has not been determined. The Johnson family was home at the time and discovered the fire. Firemen were on the scene for about three hours.
Salem Firemen report no damage in a woods fire near Lake Centralia early Sunday evening. The fire was initially spotted from across the lake. Firemen were able to locate the fire just off the public boat docks. About two acres of woods burned. A small outbuilding that appeared to be empty was destroyed. Firemen were never able to determine the ownership of the building.
Kell Firemen report no damage in a flu fire at the Ricky Boxx home at 5823 McDaneld Road in rural Kell. Firemen received the call at 9:51 Sunday night and were on the scene for about a half hour.
