Centralia City Council To Consider Seeking $350,000 State Housing Rehab GrantThe Centralia City Council will be asked Monday night to approve an application for up to $350,000 of state housing rehabilitation grant funding. The grant application will propose the rehabilitation of six homes in the target area of the 200 and 300 blocks of North Walnut, North Cherry, and North Hickory and the intersecting streets of West McCord and West Kerr Streets. The estimated cost to rehabilitate each house is $47,500. The remainder of the money would go to grant management services and inspection. The city received similar awards for housing rehabilitation projects in 2006, 2008 and 2010 totaling $824,000.
The council will consider the purchase of two 2013 Dodge Charger's for the Police Department at a cost of $23,898 apiece from Monken Chrysler Dodge Jeep Nissan in Centralia.
The JuDez Girls' Club is seeking permission to use Fairview Park for a community Easter Egg Hunt on March 23rd. The Southern Illinois All-Stars Fishing Club is requesting permission to use Lake Centralia one Wednesday a week April through October.
Mayor Tom Ashby is recommending the appointment of Neil Ackerman to the Historic Preservation Committee and Marva Bledsoe and Linda Dabney to the Centralia Youth Commission.
The Centralia City Council meeting begins at seven Monday night at Centralia City Hall.
