Centralia City Council To Consider Purchase of Property Near AirportThe Centralia City Council will consider purchasing a five acre parcel of property on East Calumet Street near the Centralia Municipal Airport at its meeting Monday night.
The city staff and Airport Advisory Board both feel it is in the best interest to purchase the land because of its close proximity to the airport and runway. As a result, anyone wanting to build a structure on the property at 2450 East Calumet would have to follow specific FAA procedures. However, the city staff still feels the land would be a viable commercial and industrial site.
The city would be purchasing property from the Centralia Humane Society who purchased it for $30,000 in 2005. The society later decided to use a different site and have listed the property for sale for $27,500. They agreed at their meeting earlier this month to sell the property to the city for that price. The city would use money from its TIF #6 to pay for the purchase.
The council will also consider approval of a resolution authorizing the submittal of the Centralia Municipal Airport's Transportation Improvement Plan for Fiscal Year 2015-2019. A resolution authorizing the Kelly Miller Circus to use Fairview Park on April 19th is on the agenda. A closed session is listed to discuss personnel.
The Centralia City Council meeting gets underway at seven Monday night at Centralia City Hall.
