Both Salem and Centralia To Have Memorial Day Remembrances MondayBoth Salem and Centralia will have Memorial Day remembrances on Monday.
The Salem American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary's Memorial Day program will be at two Monday afternoon in the East Lawn Cemetery. The Guest Speaker will be State Representative John Cavaletto. Music will be offered by the Selmaville Grade School Band. Charles Snow will play 'Taps' and Mark Ellis will play the Bagpipes. Everyone is encouraged to attend and enjoy the celebration with the city of Salem. Make sure to bring your lawn chairs.
In Centralia, Memorial Day Services will be held at 10:30 at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Old U.S. 51 North. The annual event is sponsored by the Centralia VFW, American Legion, and Vietnam Veterans. You should bring a lawn chair as no seating is available. Everyone is welcome to attend. In case of rain, the service will be moved to the Centralia VFW Post at 18-26 South Pine.
Salem and Centralia City Halls will be closed Monday for the Memorial Day Holiday. Trash pickup in both cities will not be completed on Monday, with pickup running one day late the rest of this week. The Centralia City Council meeting on Monday will be delayed until Tuesday. In Salem, compost collection will remain on the regular Tuesday and Thursday collection schedule. Both the Patoka Village Hall and Library will also be closed in observance of Memorial Day. All area courthouses as well as most state and federal government offices will also be closed.
