Both Salem and Centralia Schedule Cleanup and Arbor Day Programs for SaturdayThe Keep Salem Beautiful Park Cleanup and the Tree Board's Arbor Day celebration are both planned for Saturday morning in Bryan Memorial Park.
KSB's Rita Black says volunteers should meet at nine am at Shelter Two to begin the clean-up. "We will have the gloves and the bags, the supplies will be there. When they come back, we will have the Arbor Day that is sponsored by the Tree Board. Everyone is entitled to a tree that will be given away. All this is free to the community. Then we will have the hot dog luncheon that is provided by the Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home. Then we'll have the little program on the stage. It is usually over by 11 or 12 o'clock," said Black.
The winner of the contest to design the T-shirt will also be announced. There were 44 entries this year from fifth graders. The winner receives a $30 prize. All those who participate in the cleanup will also receive one of the t-shirts. Children ten and under need to be accompanied by an adult.
In Centralia, Keep Centralia Beautiful is holding its annual tire collection program at Expert Tire in the Fairview Shopping Center from nine to two. Centralia is also planning its Arbor Day Celebration from ten to two at Fairview Park. In the case of inclement weather, the Arbor Day Tree Sale at Fairview Park from noon to 2:00 sponsored by the City of Centralia Tree Board will be cancelled.
