Both Drivers Injured in Two Vehicle Crash On South Side of CentraliaBoth drivers were injured in a two car crash on U.S. 51 on the south side of Centralia Friday afternoon.
Centralia Police say a car driven by 22-year-old Brandon Duhon of Hickory Ridge Apartments was southbound when he hydroplaned on the wet surface, lost control, and spun around into the northbound lane. Duhon's car was then struck by a northbound car driven by 52-year-old Rose Straeter of North Squire Lane in Mt. Vernon.
Police say Duhon's car continued down an embankment. He was thrown from the car and landed a short distance away. Straeter was able to get out of her car on her own.
Both drivers were taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia. Straeter was later transferred by ambulance to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.
Duhon was ticketed for having unsafe tires, driving too fast for conditions, no insurance and not wearing a seatbelt. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
The wreck occurred during a rain storm around 3:30 Friday afternoon.
