Both Drivers Injured In East Main Street WreckBoth drivers were injured in a crash on East Main Street near the Lackey Street intersection just east of the Union Pacific Railroad overpass in Salem Thursday afternoon.
Salem Police say 22-year-old Ariel Sue Crum of St. Elmo was eastbound in a pickup truck when she turned directly into the path of an oncoming westbound car driven by 71-year-old Jerry Smith of Lebanon. Police say it is unclear why Crum made the abrupt turn since there were no roads or driveways in the area.
Both drivers were taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment. Crum was ticketed for improper lane usage. Smith had to be cut out of his vehicle by the Salem Fire Protection District. The crash occurred around two Thursday afternoon. Traffic was blocked on East Main for about a half hour.
