Big Lots To Open New Store in Centralia's Fairview Shopping CenterBig Lots is coming back to Centralia.
Mayor Tom Ashby says the company is looking towards a March opening date in the separate building in the Fairview Shopping Center that formerly housed Goodies and J.C. Penny's. "I think is a great opportunity that he have them once again back in Centralia. I believe it is a asset for everyone. It will bring more people in and give more people one stop shopping basically at the shopping center," said Ashby. "We're very very happy about having them back in our community."
Big Lots was in Centralia once before in a different portion of the Fairview Shopping Center. Consolidated Stores Corporation of Columbus Ohio owns Big Lots. They plan to make $84,500 in renovations prior to the reopening. Ashby says the company has not indicated how many employees they will have.
Ashby notes its one of three recent positive business developments in the city. "Mid Am is actually relocating back in Centralia spending two million dollars in improvements to the Alcan building. We have Country Bobs that is building a new facility as well," said Ashby. "It is a very positive time for our community."
The new Big Lots store will contain 34,000 square feet, bigger than the 22,000 square feet their formerly occupied at the shopping center before the store closed in 2005. Big Lots already has a store in Mt. Vernon.
