Bartelso Woman Hurt In Downtown Centralia Crash
Centralia Police say Maryann Voss ran a red light while northbound on Elm Street and collided with a westbound car on McCord Street driven by 27-year-old Tessa Opfer of Shobonier. The impact of the wreck caused Voss' van to turn over on the driver's side. She was trapped inside.
Centralia City Firemen had to cut out part of the top of the van and remove part of the windshield to remove Voss. She was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia for treatment. Opfer was not injured.
Firefighters also had to deal with gasoline leaking from the van, creating a possible fire or explosion situation. Foam was spread on the gas to reduce the danger and no problems occurred.
Centralia Police had to reroute traffic around the intersection for about an hour and a half until Voss was freed and the wreckage could be cleared. The wreck occurred at 10:27 Friday morning.
