A Flurry of Downtown Activities Mark Fall Festival

By Garrett Ford, WJBD News

A variety of other activities were held in downtown Centralia Saturday in conjunction with the 2012 Fall Festival. Kids were treated to inflatable jumps while parents could browse through dozens of craft vendors in the Centralia Recreation Complex. Event organizers say they were pleased with the crowd that turned out in spite of the cool temperatures. Chair Jay Borum says the people downtown were treated to a unique event as a second carillion came to Centralia all the way from Ohio.  "They went to a lot of trouble to get that here.  It travels all around the country.  It's a one-of-a-kind deal.  The carillion player Carlo did a great job with it.  They called it 'Bats in the Belfry' to fit in with the Halloween theme.  Everybody enjoyed it," Borum said.

Many people also had the chance to enjoy the annual downtown car show and the annual chili cookoff. As this year's activities die down, preparations will soon begin for the 2013 Fall Festival and Halloween Parade.

Chili Cookoff Winners:

2nd – Marcus Holland

 Judge's Choice:

1st – Steve Gans & Sean Viernum

2nd – Kaitlin Sprehe, Terri Dobbs, Mary Barr, Megan Chillson

3rd – Jason Bostick
