Justin Timberlake-Starring Biopic About '70s Record Exec Finally Gets Spinning

Jason Kempin/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Back in 2011, it was announced that Justin Timberlake had signed on to star in a biopic about late legendary record executive Neil Bogart, who co-founded Casablanca Records, home to '70s superstars KISS, Cher, Donna Summer and the Village People.   Well, now it appears as though the project, calling Spinning Gold, is finally underway.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will be shopped to foreign buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Market, which takes place at the same time as the Cannes Film Festival.  Justin was already scheduled to attend that event to promote another movie he's in: the Coen Brothers' Inside Lleweyn Davis.

Spinning Gold does not yet have a script, but it's slated to shoot early next year; a soundtrack is also planned.

Neil Bogart's story is compelling, not just because Casablanca Records produced so many hits, but because its corporate culture was said to be the ultimate in debauchery.  One famous story claims that in the Casablanca offices, girls would come around every afternoon to take employees' drug orders.  Bogart died of cancer in 1982.

Back in 2011, Bogart's son Tim Bogart told Deadline.com that Justin was cast in the film because he "has the exact same energy as my father, the same glimmer in his eye.”
