"Downton Abbey" Renewed for Fifth Season

Michael Tran/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- Though the fourth season of Downton Abbey has yet to air in the U.S., the drama has already been renewed by its British network home.

ITV has announced it has commissioned a fifth season of Downton Abbey. Season four concluded in the U.K. on ITV on Sunday, though a Christmas special is planned for later this year.

PBS will begin televising the show's fourth season in the U.S. on Jan. 5, 2014.  To whet your appetite, PBS will premiere a behind-the-scenes special titled Return to Downton Abbey on Dec. 1.  Susan Sarandon will host the special.
