Two Sentenced, Two Charged in Marion County Court

A 32-year-old Centralia man has been placed on two years probation after pleading guilty in Marion County Court to a battery charge.  Mickey Barczewski admitted to repeatedly punching Brian Meskial in the face last April.  A second count of battery and a charge of home invasion were dropped as part of the plea.  Barczewski was also ordered to forfeit his bond as fine and costs, undergo drug and alcohol evaluation and anger management counseling.  Barczewski also received a 90 day jail sentence, but the sentence will not have to be completed if Barczewski successfully completes the terms of his probation.  Another charge of violation of bail bond filed separately was also dropped as part of the plea.

 

A 26-year-old Centralia man has pleaded guilty to unlawful possesson of a controlled substance.  Matthew Phillips of Airport Road admitted to possession of less than 15 grams of heroin.  He was placed on 30 months probation, fined 500-dollars, and ordered to serve 180 days in the Marion County Jail. 

 

A 30-year-old Mt. Vernon woman has been charged with obstructing justice.  Amanda Wilson of North Illinois Route 37 is accused of refusing to identify a man driving a car who fled during a traffic stop. She was reportedly a passenger in the car.  Bond is set at five-thousand dollars.

 

A 50-year-old Centralia man has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence and resisting a peace officer.  James Johnston of State Route 161 is accused of driving under the influence on October 14th with three prior DUI charges.  He's also accused of refusing to be handcuffed by a Corrections Sergeant at the Marion County Jail.
