Clinton County Coroner Phillip Moss says a 44-year-old rural Centralia man died early Sunday morning from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. 

Jeff Schmitz of College Road northwest of Centralia was pronounced dead at the scene.  Moss reports the shooting occurred while Schmitz was apparently involved in a domestic dispute.  The other person involved was taken to St. Mary's/Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment of shock from the incident. 

The Clinton County Sheriff's Department and Coroner's office are continuing their investigation.  Police were initially called to the home at 12:45 Sunday morning.  Funeral services for Schmitz are pending at the Irvin Funeral Home in Centralia, where friends may inquire.
