Quinn Signs Capital Bill
7/14/09 @ 3:53:18 pm

Governor Pat Quinn signed the capital bill Monday in Chicago. Quinn's office estimates the $31-billion plan will support more than 439,000 jobs.  "That's going to create jobs that stay in our own backyard," Quinn said, "They won't get exported to a foreign country.  They'll stay in Illinois.  We're going to teach lots of people the skills of how to do things right and do things green.  We're going to use our money in a smart way."

State Rep. John Cavaletto was present at the signing. He noted it has been ten years since Illinois has had a major capital construction program.  He said, "It's going to put a lot of people back to work again with a million and a half dollars coming to our district.  A lot of people and small towns are going to share in that.  It means a lot to us."

At the Centralia City Council meeting Monday night, Centralia Mayor Becky Ault said she was excited for the projects coming to Centralia.  "All in all, I think the City of Centralia did okay.  We came out on top of the capital bill.  I don't know when we're going to get started on Calumet [Street] and Airport [Road], but at least the money is there," Ault said.

Sen. John O. Jones said "roads, bridges, facilities and schools have been crumbling" for nearly a decade and said he "applauds Gov. Quinn for keeping his word."
