In other news from Centralia High School, Superintendent Lane said sometime in the next couple weeks, he will likely purchase electricity from a third party provider. The move is expected to save the district an estimated 19-percent on their electric costs.
Centralia High School will host a summer school this summer offering Math and English credits. The classes will help students who missed graduation in May by a few credits as well as incoming seniors who are already low on credits. If attendance is low, the District may open it students outside the district. The cost is $150 for residential students, $200 non-residential, and $75 for reduced price.
Shipley said he was pleased with the high school's first closed graduation ceremony. He said one person was escorted out of the balcony, but there were no problems on the floor. He reported most parents said they were pleased to be guaranteed floor seats. Many board members commented that this was the quietest graduation they remember.
Tom Broughton was reappointed school treasurer, Sam Bernard was employed as a full-time custodian, and English teacher Brenda Engel was employed as English Department Head for the 2009-2010 school year, replacing retiring department head Steve Stein. The Board accepted the resignation of chorus teacher Joseph Durbin.
